Description
Oval silver and silver gilt watch by Pierre II Combret in Lyon (1581-1622). Engraved decoration, front and back, of mythological scenes in medallions surrounded by foliage and grotesques. The case is openwork and decorated in the same way. The lid houses a compass and a sundial with a pierced mobile gnomon. The gilt dial, also decorated with grotesques, shows the hours of the morning and day in Roman numerals and the afternoon in Arabic numerals. Single iron hand. Movement signed on the plate with openworked cock and pawl. (missing setting disc). Nine-turn spindle with chain (unhooked). Yoke escapement. Five tapering baluster pillars. Three winders for the mechanism, the striking hours and the alarm. Henri IV period (1589-1610). Height: 5.9 cm - Width: 3.2 cm Combret family: dynasty of Lyonnais watchmakers of German origin in the 16th and 17th centuries.
