Gold "oignon" watch, signed: "les Fes. Castel à Paris". Enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals. Gilt pierced hands. Rod movement with openworked and engraved cock. Silver regulating disc. Rocket with 7 revolutions. Plain gold case. Louis XVI period, circa 1785 Diameter: 5.2 cm. Gross weight. 121 g. Gold gousset chain with double round links. Weight 40 g. Faceted amethyst pendant, mounted in gold. A gold Directoire key decorated with an escutcheon. Weight: 10g Adrien and Guillaume Castel, sons of a watchmaker born in Cologne who settled in Bourg-en-Bresse in 1708. In 1763, they founded a watchmaking school in Bourg-en-Bresse, which became the École Royale in 1766.
