Expert: ANSAS PAPILLON DE LERY A travelling painter, Alix Aymé developed a love of travel from a very young age, inspired first by her parents and then through her own experiences. Ambitious, curious and sociable are the key words that define an artist whose open-mindedness and talent shine through in each of her works. Her apprenticeship under renowned artists such as Desvallière and, above all, her mentor Maurice Denis – a prominent member of the Nabis group – as well as her exploration of various techniques during her numerous travels in Asia, forged her style, which is as distinctive as it is aesthetically pleasing. Alix Aymé played a significant role in the revival of the art of lacquer in connection with Asia. Based in Indochina, she draws deep inspiration from traditional Vietnamese techniques and collaborates with the École des Beaux-Arts de l’Indochine to develop this art form. In particular, she has helped to adapt Asian lacquer to modern forms of painting and decoration. Her works are characterised by glossy surfaces, deep colours and meticulous layering, revealing poetic scenes often inspired by nature and everyday life in Asia.
