19th-century French school, studio of Jean-Victor BERTIN View of Olevano Canvas mounted on cardboard Height: 32 cm Width: 39.6 cm Previous restorations Several versions of this composition are known, including one at the Bibliothèque-musée l’Inguimbertine in Carpentras (formerly the Musée Duplessis), which features variations as it includes a couple near the fountain on the right. These have been attributed to Bidault and erroneously presented as depicting the village of Les Beaumes-de-Venise (catalogue of the exhibition ‘Jean-Joseph-Xavier Bidauld (1758–1846): Paintings and Drawings’, Carpentras, Angers, Cherbourg, 1978, unpaginated, no. 47). The style and the similarity to a drawing signed by Jean-Victor Bertin (private collection), located in Olevano, near Rome, lead us to attribute this group of works to that painter’s studio.
