Description
Max TOURET (1872–1963) – Oil on hardboard ‘Returning from a fishing trip in a rowing boat’ Dimensions as shown. 25.5 x 33 cm
Max Touret, an engineer who graduated from the École Centrale, lived between Normandy, Paris and New York. It was there that he discovered Impressionism and his calling as a painter during the exhibitions organised by Paul Durand-Ruel. A member of the upper middle class, he did not sell his works commercially but exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français. Following exhibitions in Deauville (Salle des Fêtes) in 2018 and Paris (5th arrondissement town hall) in 2019, the Eugène Boudin Museum in Honfleur, which holds five of his paintings, is staging a retrospective of his work from 10 May to 17 September 2023: Max Touret, Le désir du motif.
