Old restorations.
In The Burlington Magazine, 1970, n°804, p.166 , Anthony Blunt attests that the painting "Henri IV et Alexandre de Médicis" (circa 1613-1614) now conserved in Pau - useful for identifying the model of our portrait - completed the decoration of Marie de Médicis' Cabinet doré in the Palais du Luxembourg.
As the cardinal (and Pope Leo XI in 1605) was the queen's cousin, we feel that this representation is reliable.
