Description
Censer with the Hebrews in the furnace.
Bronze with a golden patina mounted on a dish, depicting three Hebrews whose names are engraved in arcs of a circle (Azarias, Ananias and Misaël), fantastic animals and a Latin inscription around the rim: "I, Rénier, give this censer as a sign that at the hour of death you will grant me a funeral similar to yours, and I believe that your prayers will be like incense for Christ".
A 19th century remake of the original Romanesque copy, produced around 1160/1665 and kept at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille (inv.A82).
