Description
CITROEN 2CV AZL 1958 Make: CITROEN Model: AZL Chassis number: 1001135 Engine number: 02850011 (red plate - 425cc) Bodywork: Saloon with boot lid Colour: Yellow Tax horsepower: 2 Mileage (not guaranteed): 30,987 km Non-running restoration project requiring repairs. The vehicle is presented with a standard French registration document _____ Presentation It was in the mid-1930s, under the impetus of Pierre MICHELIN, then owner of CITROËN, that the TPV project was launched: Toute Petite Voiture (Very Small Car). Pierre Boulanger set out his famous specifications as follows: “Have your engineers design a car capable of carrying two farmers in clogs, fifty kilos of potatoes or a small barrel at a maximum speed of 60 km/h, with a fuel consumption of three litres per 100 kilometres. Furthermore, this vehicle must be able to navigate the roughest of roads; it must be light enough to be handled without difficulty by a novice driver. Its comfort must be impeccable, as the crates of eggs carried in the back must arrive intact. “With the outbreak of the Second World War, the planned presentation of the TPV project at the 1939 Paris Motor Show was abandoned and the prototypes were destroyed. At the end of the war, the project was taken up by Flaminio Bertoni, who created the Citroën 2CV, unveiled to the public at the 1948 Paris Motor Show. An innovative mobility solution, the 2CV enjoyed growing success as it evolved. The Chartres gallery is delighted to offer this 1958 Citroën 2CV AZL. The vehicle has been registered to the Genin family since 1963. The bodywork has undergone a period-style restoration. The colour appears similar to the ‘Panama Yellow’ introduced in the 1960 model year but is not the original. There are numerous signs of oxidation and corrosion, and the floor, which has undergone partial restoration, requires a complete overhaul. The soft top, all the windows, the windscreen and the interior are in their original, dilapidated condition. The Veglia speedometer reads 30,987 km (not guaranteed). The mechanical components and suspension are in a dilapidated state due to a period of inactivity in dry storage over recent years. The powertrain, with its 425cc engine (02850011), is true to the original specification. The exhaust silencer and tyres will need replacing. Some removed parts, such as the wings, are available inside the vehicle. After a long period of inactivity, this 2CV is best considered as a restoration project. The availability of parts will be crucial to getting this icon of French motoring back on the road. Fine examples of the 2CV are now highly sought after by collectors.
