Fulbert-Pierre Larregieu (? – 1886) Man-at-arms in the spotlight Wax statuette under a glass dome Damage, mould and minor losses, particularly to the feathers; damaged dome Bears an old, partially legible label reading ‘Par Lar… / sculpteur’ H.: 49 cm. Expert: Sculpture et Collection Bibliography: Stanislas Lami, Dictionnaire des sculpteurs de l’école française au XIXe siècle, 1919; this work is probably mentioned on p. 255. Explanation of the works of painting, sculpture, architecture, engraving and lithography by living artists exhibited at the Palais des Champs-Élysées on 1 May 1877, Paris, Imprimerie nationale, 1877; our work is probably mentioned on p. 509 under no. 3924. A pupil of Dominique Maggesi and Auguste Dumont, Fulbert-Pierre Larregieu exhibited works featuring animal subjects, historical themes and portraits at the Salon. Among these works is a wax equestrian statuette entitled ‘Man-at-arms in a launch’, presented at the 1877 Salon under number 3924, and which probably corresponds to our work.
