Description
Luis Ricardo FALERO (Spanish painter, 1851–1896). The Coquette. Oil on panel, signed lower left, titled on an old label on the reverse. The panel bears a stamp from the Parisian art dealer “Tableaux modernes – Boichard – Place de l’Opéra” on the reverse. H_40 cm W_25 cm In a carved and gilded wooden frame, with a brass cartouche marked ‘Luis Falero’. Note: Trained in Paris, Falero (Granada 1851–London 1896) is noted for his refined and sensual depictions of women, characterised by an academic realism reminiscent of Bouguereau and Lefebvre. Our painting exemplifies this intimate and sophisticated style, typical of fin-de-siècle salon painting. Note: A painting by the Spanish artist Eduardo Zamacois y Zabala (1842–1871), held at the Petit Palais, bears a similar stamp on the reverse from the art dealer located at 8, Place de l’Opéra.
