Description
Victor VASARELY (1906–1997) Boytar 1977 Canvas, signed lower right, countersigned, titled and dated on the reverse Numbered on the reverse P980 130 x 130 cm (59 x 59 in.) Provenance: The work was acquired in the early 1980s, directly from the artist by the current owner’s father. The authenticity of this work has been confirmed by Mr Pierre Vasarely, President of the Vasarely Foundation. A certificate, at the purchaser’s expense, may be issued by the Vasarely Foundation. About the silkscreen print: Victor Vasarely, the father of Op Art, created ‘Boytar’ in 1984, an iconic silkscreen print. This work creates a powerful optical illusion: a central sphere appears to float, pulsate and swell within a grid of coloured circles. The vibrant contrasts and precise gradients trick the eye, creating depth and kinetic movement. Typical of the ‘Vega’ period and his explorations of fictitious volume, ‘Boytar’ embodies Vasarely’s vision of a universal, sensory art form, accessible to all, free from figurative representation and based on the pure interaction between form, colour and the human eye.
