Canute CALISTE (Grenadian, 1914–2005) - A wedding day - Dark sale for a bad man Two gouaches on panel 39 x 49 cm Emmanuel Caliste, born on 16 April 1914 in L’Esterre, Carriacou, was also known as Monsieur Caliste or ‘Papa CC’. A fisherman, he claimed to have been inspired by the sight of a mermaid at the age of nine and to have started painting shortly afterwards. Today, Caliste’s works can be found in many major collections around the world. He is buried in the Joseph Cemetery in L’Esterre.
