Crowned Shield of France surmounted by a sun.
Reverse: + XPS: VINCIT: XPS: REGNAT: XPS: IMPERAT (five-petalled flower and trefoil). Fleur-de-lis cross flanked by two F’s and two lilies. Dy 775.
A gold shield with a sun (5th type, 3rd issue 21 July 1519).

Note: François I was born François d’Angoulême on 12 September 1494 in Cognac and died on 31 March 1547 in Rambouillet. He was King of France from 1515 until his death. The son of Charles d’Orléans and Louise of Savoy, he belonged to the Valois-Angoulême branch of the royal family. François grew up at the Château d’Amboise, on the banks of the Loire, surrounded by his mother and sister. On 25 January 1502, he fell from his horse and found himself in a critical condition. His mother fell ill as a result and lived only for the recovery of the one she called her ‘Caesar’…
