Description
Astronomy-themed clock in chiselled bronze, matt gilded and burnished (shows signs of wear), depicting Urania, holding a compass, studying a blue enamelled globe adorned with stars, the circular dial is enamelled white with black Roman numerals (some flaking), whilst the base is adorned with a bas-relief depicting a putto and a telescope. Quadrangular counter-plinth in sea-green marble (some flaking) with four small feet. Based on a drawing by Jean-André Reiche (1752–1817). Empire period. Height: 37 cm – Width: 30 cm – Depth: 10 cm Note: The watercolour of Jean-André Reiche’s drawing was deposited in 1806 at the Imperial Library, now the Print Room of the National Library.
