Description
Louis VIDAL (1831–1892) Walking Lion Bronze with a brown patina. Signed ‘VIDAL’ on the pedestal. Height: 20 cm; Length: 33 cm, on a sea-green marble plinth. A pupil of Antoine-Louis Barye and Pierre Louis Rouillard, the Nîmes-based sculptor Louis Vidal specialised in animal sculpture. When he lost his sight in 1853, he relied on touch instead and continued his career. He even worked alongside Barye’s son, Alfred, and became a modelling teacher at the École Braille in Paris in 1888. Expert: Cabinet LACROIX - JEANNEST
