Description
Circular mahogany tea table with pewter and Turquin blue marble inlays; the top rests on a band decorated with pearls, which supports a second top with a bronze barrel adorned with foliage, the legs, in wood with an antique green patina and eagle-head finials, are joined by a triangular cross-brace surmounted by a vase; (damage, particularly to the marble top; losses).
Consulate period, c. 1800.

The design of the tea table, the earliest examples of which—also in mahogany—are found in the work of Adam Weisweiler, was widely adopted from the late 18th century onwards, notably by cabinetmakers such as Bernard Molitor, Jean-Joseph Chapuis and the Maison Jacob.
