Description
A significant and original piece from the KARABAGH GALLERY, Armenia, Caucasus Late 19th century. Napoleon III period. Dimensions: 580 x 125 cm. Wool velvet on a wool backing. Decorative motif reminiscent of the Savonnerie style. Black field decorated with a series of medallions formed by crenellated branches ending in stylised serpentine motifs, inlaid with floral bouquets and surrounded by finely drawn flowers and foliage arranged in a mosaic pattern. Beautiful polychromy. Good condition. Remarkably fresh colours.  Bibliography: Ulrich Schurmann, Dr Thompson, H.
