This tapestry depicts an episode from the story of Joseph in the Old Testament. Joseph appears on the left, wearing a turban; in front of him, his brothers and Benjamin are kneeling or standing. Joseph was the favourite son of the patriarch Jacob and Rachel, and had many half-brothers who worked in the fields. Whilst they were working, Joseph remained with his father, which aroused their jealousy. Taken to Egypt, Joseph later became the kingdom’s chief administrator thanks to his talent for interpreting dreams. He predicted seven years of famine and enabled Egypt to prepare for it.
