Provenance Private collection, Germany This refined portrait exemplifies Conrad Kiesel's skill in portraying fashionable society figures of the late 19th century. The sitter is shown wearing a rose‑colored embroidered gown, adorned with a necklace and a distinctive serpent‑shaped bracelet on her left arm. In her right hand, she holds a glass together with a fur stole, elements that reflect the codes of elegance and sociability characteristic of the period. Trained at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, Kiesel later established himself in Berlin, where he became a member of the Academy of Arts and developed a clientele among the upper bourgeoisie.
