Description
112. A pair of Sèvres navettes, dated 1826 and 1827 Of almond form (the flowers later decorated), the bitonal exterior decorated with a bleu-lapis band above a pink-ground band, separated by a lateral band of gilding, the rim with a gilt S-scroll foliate motif, the interior with a floral garland to the walls and a large spray of flowers to the well, 27cm long, stamped with interlocking CC cypher above "Sèvres 26" and "Sèvres 27", gilder's marks for Pierre-Louis Micaud (active 1795-1834), inscribed with the dates "15 D 25" and "10 MAI 26" in green, "PALAIS DE VENDRAMINI." within an almond-shaped gilt frame and incised letters to both bases, (flowers later decorated) (2) Provenance Marie-Caroline de Bourbon-Siciles (1798-1870), Duchesse de Berry In 1844, the Duchesse de Berry purchased the Ca'Vendramin Calergi with her second husband Ettore Carlo Lucchesi-Palli, Duke of Grazia. The bleu-lapis ground and gilt decoration of the navettes closely matches those on the service delivered in January 1826 to the Duchesse de Berry, who had noticed it at the Exposition des Produits de l'Industrie and acquired it immediately (Arch. Sèvres, Vbb7, 12 and Pb6, 1825, n°12). It is likely the flower decoration was a later addition to the navettes, similarly to a Sèvres dessert bowl sold at Mercier & Cie, Lille, 13 February 2022, lot 48.
