Description
160. 160W A mid 18th century quarter chiming longcase clock movement housed in a later case John Ellicott, London The case surmounted by a moulded architectural pediment above a pierced sound fret backed in red silk, the front with a simple brass escutcheon, the trunk door inlaid and fitted with a matching escutcheon, all terminating in a moulded plinth base. The brass 12 inch break-arch dial with silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, fleur-de-lys half-hour markers, the matted centre with subsidiary seconds dial, calendar aperture and three winding squares, signed on a applied name plaque John Ellicott, London, all framed by six cast brass spandrels, with strike/silent subsidiary dial in the arch. The substantial movement with deadbeat escapement with adjustable steel pallets, striking the hours on a large bell via a rack and snail system, the quarters sounding on a run of 8 bells and hammers mounted above via a pined barrel. Currently ticking and striking, sold with one case key and one winding key. 250cm high. Provenance Property of a Distinguished Private Collector
