176. 176W A late 19th century French grande sonnerie striking gorge case carriage clock with alarm The case surmounted by a rippled carrying handle over a large bevelled glass observation window to a moulded top, the sides with similar observation panels, supported by decorated uprights, all raised on a moulded base. The underside with three-position indicator lever for Grande Sonnerie – Petite Sonnerie – Silence. The 2.75 inch white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals and blued steel Breguet-style hands, with subsidiary Arabic alarm-setting dial to the lower section. The twin-train movement united by four pillars with alarm work mounted to the upper left, striking the hours and quarters on a pair of blued steel gongs and hammers mounted to the backplate, with silvered lever platform escapement.
