Description
Jean-Baptiste Auguste Clésinger (1814–1883), *Tête de Christ*, *Christ aux outrages*.
Jean-Baptiste Auguste Clésinger (1814–1883), *Tête de Christ*, *Christ aux outrages*, patinated bronze sculpture, signed and dated ‘Jean-Baptiste Auguste Clésinger, Rome 1858’, cast by Ferdinand Barbedienne, bearing the foundry mark and the stamp ‘Réduction Mécanique A. Collas’. A bronze reduction based on a model by Jean-Baptiste Auguste Clésinger himself. Clésinger created this type of Christ’s head in Rome in 1858; hence, examples bear the inscription ‘J. Clésinger, Rome 1858’. The original model was executed in marble and exhibited the following year at the 1859 Salon. Barbedienne subsequently produced it in bronze in several sizes. 13 x 9 cm.
