Aragonese School. Huesca. Romanesque. Mid 13th century. 'Seat of Wisdom. Sedes Sapientiae' Carved and polychrome wooden sculpture. 67 x 19,5 x 15,5 cm. The cult of the Virgin Mary was among the most fervently observed during the final centuries of the Middle Ages, commanding a significant portion of sculptural production. This 'Maiestas Mariae' from the Aragonese zone of Huesca depicts the Virgin as the throne of Christ. Provenance: - Private collection. Mallorca.
