An extremely fine and collectible, rare, large and attractive, water-resistant, automatic, porthole shaped, stainless steel wristwatch with petrol blue/black ribbed dial, date, luminous hands, stainless steel bracelet with secured deployant clasp.
Fitted with a Cal. 28-255C, mechanical, rhodium-plated, stamped with the Seal of Geneva, 36 jewels, straight line lever escapement, Gyromax balance, self-compensating flat balance spring, shock absorbers, self-winding, rotor with gold segment, monobloc steel case, bezel secured by four screws in the band, sapphire crystal.
Dial, case and movement signed. Deployant clasp stamped “Nautilus”.
Diam. 40 mm. Thickness 7.46 mm. Approx. overall length 180 mm.
Accompanied by a fitted black Patek Philippe presentation box and Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives, stating that the present watch was manufactured in 1977, and sold on Dec 19th 1978 with a black dial, tritium indexes and steel bracelet.
In 1976, Patek Philippe collaborated with Gerald Genta to create the ultimate sports watch. The Nautilus collection was thus created, with the very first model being reference 3700/1 in stainless steel. The patented case design of reference 3700/1, was registered on April 23, 1976. The cases were made for Patek Philippe by Favre-Perret SA, in Le Crêt-du-Locle, from 1976 until 1981 when production was transferred to Patek’s own Ateliers Réunis workshops, for the second generation Ref. 3700/11.
According to researchers, around 3600 pieces were produced under the Reference 3700/1A and 1200 pieces under the Ref. 3700/11A.
In superb overall condition, with its well-preserved case, patinated petrol blue/black dial bearing with the famous “Swiss Sigma” signature at 6, accent for the second E of GENEVE, nicely aged luminous indexes and hands, clasp engraved “Nautilus”, the present watch is per sure a great and iconic timekeeper to consider for any discerning collector.
