JAPAN, Meiji period
A pair of large bronze baluster vases with a brown patina, the rounded body decorated in relief with hoopoes, turtles and flowering branches, in reserves, and flanked by two lateral handles in the form of elephant heads. The flared neck is decorated with chased clouds and applied cranes in flight on either side. The circular base is embellished with a dragon in relief.
