BURMA - Mandalay, early 20th century Shakyamuni Buddha in gilded wood decorated with tesserae of coloured glass, depicted standing in a hieratic posture on a lotiform base, his hands stretched out along his robe. His face is serene with a slight smile, his eyes half-closed and his headdress crowned with the Ushnisha. The whole resting on a stepped base of square section in blackened wood.
