Robert Hyde Colebrooke (c. 1762-1808) was a British infantry officer in India and one of the first surveyors to conduct topographical surveys in Bengal and Mysore. Appointed Surveyor General of Bengal in 1794, a post he held until his death, he is notably the author of "Twelve Views of Places in the Kingdom of Mysore" (1794), a record of his survey campaign in the region in 1790.
Provenance: private collection of a diplomat who served in India in the 1970s.
