INDIA - Rajasthan, 18th-19th centuries Bhairavi Ragini (?), page from a Ragamala manuscript Gouache on paper 25 x 17 cm. (Some wear). On a terrace decorated with Rajput architecture, a standing court lady waves a peacock-feathered fly swatter (chauri) in deference to a seated figure in meditative posture, holding both a trident and a prayer bead (mâlâ). The scene evokes the Bhairavi Ragini, associated with Shiva devotion. Provenance: private collection of a diplomat who served in India in the 1970s.
