Description
A carved alabaster medallion with a relief decoration depicting a man’s profile, facing right, probably ‘San Eusebio’ according to the inscription surrounding it. On the reverse, an inscription and a date in pen. Italy, 17th–18th century. Diameter: 7.7 cm. Accompanied by Désiré-Albert BARRE (1818–1878), after the original. Patinated copper medal. Obverse: head of Louis-Philipper I, in profile to the left, in the classical style, encircled by an oak wreath. Inscription: “Louis-Philipper I / King of the French”. Beneath the neck, the signature ‘BAREE Ft’. Reverse: Laurel wreath; in the centre, ‘Collége royal de Henri IV / Henri d’Orléans, Duke of Aumale / 1835’. Weight: 57.1 g. Diameter: 5 cm. (wear to the patina on the obverse)
