An Italian Cassone or wedding chest of rectangular cross-section in moulded and carved walnut, the front decorated with putti and mermaids bearing a coat of arms centred on a two-headed eagle in a frame of leafy scrolls. The uprights are decorated in high relief with mermaids resting on bases centred on cherubs linked by a belt decorated with acanthus leaf friezes and gadroons.
Renaissance work from the 16th century.
