A dark, slightly weathered wooden hut door decorated with abstract and geometric motifs associated with protection and cosmogonic symbols. These Sahelian doors were used to protect food supplies.
Unlike in other regions of Africa, where doors might be decorated with figurative motifs,
these were adorned solely with abstract, cruciform or incised patterns, repeated in a way that also gave them the symbolic power to protect against spirits.
Rests on a fine metal plinth.
