Panel from a community house on stilts, featuring traditional painted and carved decoration.
These panels, believed to possess magical powers, were thought to attract the protection of benevolent spirits and ward off malevolent ones.
Usually made of jackfruit wood, they were adorned with footprints (grounding, connection to invisible forces), handprints (protection and power, contact with ancestors) and geometric patterns symbolising the order of the universe.
