AN INTERESTING SCULPTURE OF A BISHOP’S HEAD, LATE 16TH – EARLY 17TH CENTURY. A polychrome limestone sculpture depicting a bishop wearing his mitre. The almond-shaped eyes, the geometric hairstyle revealing short curls on the forehead and temples, and the serene, stylised expression are perfectly in keeping with the art of this period. It rests on a later stone plinth. H: 46 cm In its current condition, with some missing parts and signs of wear and tear.
