Joan MIRO (1893–1983) Homage to Pablo Picasso – 1981 Pebble-shaped sculpture in patinated bronze. Signed. L: 6 cm Note: This original pebble-shaped medal was issued by UNESCO in 1981 to mark the centenary of the birth of the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. The obverse bears the inscription ‘Pablo Picasso – Málaga – 25.X.1881’ and was described by Miró as follows: ‘in the centre, an eye, lively and deep like Picasso’s, surrounded by magical and musical inscriptions’. The reverse depicts a landscape comprising a deserted field, a tree and a star, with Miró’s signature below. UNESCO awards this medal to individuals or groups in recognition of their exceptional contribution to the arts and culture.
