Description
Silver dish, with a scalloped rim moulded with fillets; the rim chiselled with five ridges and engraved with a combined coat of arms surmounted by a marquis’s crown (signs of wear, scratches, minor knocks).
Master silversmith: Pierre-Antoine GRANDGUILLAUME,
Besançon, letter ‘R’, circa 1778–1779.
Diameter: 25.5 cm;
Gross weight: 803 g.
Provenance: Lavernette family
The dish was probably engraved after the combined coat of arms of Philibert Gustave MARESCHAL de LONGEVILLE (1804 Lavigny (39)–1886 Besançon) and Zénaïs CLÉREMBAULT de VENDEUIL (1808–1892), who were married in 1828. We would like to thank Mr Bruno Ruffier of Epenoux for his kind assistance in identifying the coat of arms.
