THAILAND, Ayutthaya, 19th century. Bronze statue of Buddha, the deity seated in padmasana, his hands placed in bhumisparsa mudra, the gesture of taking the earth as witness. The face looks serene, the eyes half-closed, the mouth with its thin lips sketching a slight smile, the face framed by ears with hanging lobes. The hair is in very fine curls and topped with a ushnisha and a flamed tip. The torso is partially covered with a monastic robe, the sides of which are treated in relief. Height: 76 cm.
