Description
A pair of carved and gilded moulded wood bergères, the medallion backs crowned with roses and ribbons, resting on four tapered and fluted legs, the front legs filleted. Upholstered with tapestries from the Manufacture de Beauvais in the 18th century. The backs are decorated with a gallant scene, one with a woman carrying a basket and the other with a gentleman playing a pipe, in medallions surrounded by a frieze of laurels, flowers and a knotted ribbon. The seats are decorated with animals in cartouches. Napoleon III period floral trim on the cuffs and cheeks. Napoleon III period work in the Louis XVI style (Dim.: 99 x 53 x 71 cm - H. (seat): 47 cm) (some slight loss of gilding, wear to the upholstery, particularly that of the seats).
