Description
A LOUIS XVI period armchair with a cabriolet back in the shape of a gendarme hat, in moulded and carved wood, white relacquered. The armrests are upholstered with cuffs and finished with scrolls, the seat is curved and the legs are tapered and fluted. Stamped: M. JULLIEN Louis XVI period Pink and beige silk upholstery Damage, wear and restoration Height 93.5 cm - Width 65 cm - Depth 65 cm Martin Jullien was awarded the title of Master in Paris on 23 July 1777. His work is compared by the Comte de Salverte, in his book on 18th century cabinetmakers, to that of Georges Jacob (Éditions d'Art et d'Histoire, 1934, p. 170).
