Trained as a bookbinder, Édouard Aimé Arnould began his career as a jewellery manufacturer in 1899 at 7 rue Racine in Paris. His work was characterised by a marked taste for naturalistic motifs - leaves, flowers and insects - sometimes combined with gems and enamels. This necklace is a perfect example of Arnould's interest in organic and plant forms. With its participation in the Salon des artistes français in 1911, Arnould established itself as an emerging player in Art Nouveau and opened its workshops to European artists such as Alois Reinitzer and Manolo Hugué. The company then naturally turned to Art Deco before ceasing its activity in 1945.
