Provenance: Estate of Mr S., Geneva, constituted between 1970 and 1980. Objects imported into France before the entry into force of Regulation (EU) 2019/880 of 17 April 2019, applicable from 28 June 2025.
Tumis are crescent-shaped ceremonial knives characteristic of the cultures of the north coast of Peru, used in ritual and sacrificial contexts. In the Chimú tradition, the top usually features a figure of prestige - a divinity, lord or emblematic animal. Here, the crowned bird of prey holding a receptacle in its paws refers to winged divine figures associated with heaven and celestial power. The green patina of the bronze and the precision of the modelling at the top bear witness to highly skilled metalwork.
