Cypriot ceramics in the Bichrome style, which developed from the 11th century BC onwards, inherited Mycenaean and Minoan traditions while incorporating Levantine influences. It is characterised by a decoration painted in brown-black and red on a creamy-beige background, in which geometric motifs - concentric circles, medallions and radiating patterns - are organised with great compositional rigour. The shape of this jar, with its flattened spherical body, flared neck with painted rings and ribboned handle, is typical of this island production. The central medallion with a cross motif inscribed within concentric circles, surrounded by radiating motifs, testifies to the decorative mastery of Cypriot potters of this period.
