Estimate €150 - €300
Description
Pestle head with two-headed tiki. Carved volcanic stone, semi-polished, marks of time. Marquesas Islands, French Polynesia, probably 19th century or earlier. 6.5 × 4.5 cm This head is associated with the founding ancestors and vital forces. The two-headed, Janus-like treatment reinforces the idea of protection and vigilance, with the figure facing in several directions. Integrated into an everyday object, it is a constant symbolic presence, linking domestic gestures to notions of fertility, transmission and group continuity.
