This ceremonial sword from the island of Nias is distinguished by the slightly curved elegance of its blade and the quality of its carved handle depicting a stylised ancestral figure. Prestigious Nias weapons played an important role in asserting social status and in ceremonies linked to lineages and ritual exchanges. The richness of the materials used in the handle and scabbard, and the presence of metal rings, give the piece a sober and particularly graphic balance.
