Description
Flat-topped desk on all sides in violet wood veneer. Slightly undulating dark leather top (possibly fitted separately?) embellished around the edge with a bronze moulding featuring foliage decoration. A sinuous band adorned with ten panels in Parisian varnish (Martin varnish) featuring gold decoration against a black lacquer background depicting Japanese-style landscapes, some of which feature children or fowl. Curved legs. Rich ornamentation of gilded bronze, notably including foliage mouldings and drapery framing the lacquer panels, masks of Bacchus at the centre on each side, and satyrs adorning the tops of the corner spandrels. A drawer released by a push-button concealed beneath the moulding 18th-century style, c. 1880. H 74 W 112 D 72 cm Work in the style of Perret & Vibert.
