Description
A straight-sided chest of drawers with a richly decorated front in walnut, ash burl and thuja veneer, featuring three drawers running the full length. The top is inlaid with an elaborate design comprising panels, cross-hatching and composite fillets. The front features three central medallions and six projecting, multi-lobed side panels, bordered by flat bands and moulded frames varnished black, set within bands. The sides are decorated in a similar manner. The upright posts, the front ones being rounded, rest on small spindle-shaped feet. Polished and varnished bronze fittings: drop handles and lock plates. Belgium. Probably Liège. Date from the time of Prince-Bishop Georges Louis de Bergues. Circa 1725. H_ 99 cm W_ 145 cm D_ 73 cm Normal signs of wear and restoration.
