Description
Franz Peter Joseph KYMLI (Mannheim, circa 1748 - circa 1813)
Portrait of a man in a black suit
Canvas.
Signed and dated 1808 lower right.
Old restorations.
65 x 54 cm
Empire period palmettes frame.
After completing his artistic education in Paris, Kymli exhibited at the salons (Colisée, de la Correspondance) from 1776 to
1787, and it is highly likely that his stay in Paris continued into the early 1800s, as his after-death sale
took place in Paris on 22 February 1813.
This portrait, which appears to have been produced in Paris, should be compared with another male effigy by the same artist, signed and dated 1804, which was on the Lyon art market in 2009.
