Description
Attributed to Cornelis Van SPAENDONCK (1756-1839)
Basket of flowers on an entablature
Circular gouache
D. 5,8 cm
Our miniature is based on the oval painting (47 x 38.3 cm), Flowers in a twisted basket, a pomegranate and a thistle with a nest on a marble tray, signed
signed Corneille van Spaendonck, in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge,
from the collection of Lord Henry Rogers Broughton.
A round gouache, Fleurs dans un panier incliné et fruits sur un plateau en marbre (Flowers in a sloping basket and fruit on a marble tray), also in the Fitzwilliam Museum, uses the same composition.
Fitzwilliam Museum, is based on the composition of the painting and closely resembles our miniature. There is also a
simplified model in Sèvres porcelain. The existence of variants and copies is mentioned.
