Frederic de Coninck, a Danish merchant, married Marie de Joncourt in 1770.
This pair is a different version of the two portraits of the same models, executed in 1785 and reproduced on pp. 210 and 211 (ill. 323 and 322 of the catalogue of Juel's work, vol 2 by Ellen Poulsen (1991).
In the same year, 1785, Juel also made effigies of Jean de Coninck (a merchant and Russian imperial agent), his wife Christine, née Reiersen, and his son, Jean.
