Description
A case believed to have belonged to Federico Laredo Brú (1875–1946), President of the Republic of Cuba from 1936 to 1940, containing a pair of so-called ‘assault’ pistols, 11 mm calibre or .44 calibre. Bronzed, rifled barrels with front sights and extractors. Marbled stock with an opening lever on the right-hand side. Checkered walnut grip plates. With their bronzed steel shells, stamped ‘LL’ beneath a crown. ‘AE’ hallmarks beneath the barrels. Rifling in good condition. Circa 1880. Presented in a later inlaid case, the lid decorated with a chequerboard pattern and a shield bearing the initials FLB. Interior lined with red felt, with a cleaning rod. With its key. Height: 7.5 cm; Width: 60 cm; Depth: 38.5 cm Provenance: - According to family tradition, this case is said to have belonged to Federico Laredo Brú (1875–1946), President of the Republic of Cuba from 1936 to 1940, whose initials do indeed appear on the lid.
